Double Peak Park: Hiking, Views, and Tips for Visiting

If there’s one destination that captures the beauty of San Elijo Hills, it’s Double Peak Park. Perched atop one of the highest points in coastal North County, the park offers sweeping views, hiking, picnic areas, and some of the best sunsets in San Marcos.

The park sits just above the San Elijo Hills community, an easy stop for residents and visitors. It is accessible by car via Double Peak Drive, and hikers can also reach the summit on trail connections from surrounding neighborhoods and Discovery Lake.

The biggest attraction is the view. From the summit you can look across North County; on clear days that can include the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, and inland mountain ranges. There is a public viewing telescope at the top.
