How Much Money Do You Need to Buy a House in San Diego County?

You may not need as much cash upfront as you think. Loan type and down payment matter.

Buying a home in San Diego County is an exciting milestone, but one of the first questions most buyers ask is how much cash they need to bring to the table.

The answer depends on loan type, purchase price, down payment, and closing costs. The good news: you may not need as much cash upfront as you think.

Many buyers believe they need a 20% down payment. Putting 20% down can help you avoid private mortgage insurance, but it is not required for every loan. Depending on the program, down payment requirements may be significantly lower, including 0% for eligible VA and USDA loans.
